Louise Lemp Pabst was the child of a beer baron from St. Louis (Lemp Breweries), and curiously she married her first cousin in Milwaukee, a member of the famous Pabst Brewing family. Louise had some training in art, including in Europe, and she established a somewhat successful practice in the Greater Milwaukee area painting well to do members of the upper class, primarily women. Sometime after her death in 1977 there was an auction of many of her paintings thru the Milwauk...ee Auction Gallery, including some exceptional images of women in fine dress. These remained on the market by various means, including being displayed in a fine clothing shop in downtown Milwaukee. Since then, it has become very unusual to find any of her work on the market. This example is a colored pencil drawing of a young and pretty girl (unknown), most likely 1940's or 50's, measuring about 29" x 23", signed at the bottom as you see in the images. The drawing is quite light in color, carefully executed with a controlled hand. There is a very light water stain center bottom below the image which was not noticed until I turned the light on to photograph. This is very faint, and looks like it could be wiped with bleach on a cloth, or otherwise removed. The frame is gilded and given a distressed look, but not cracked or otherwise unseemly. The piece with glass weighs about 7 1/2 pounds. Due to size, glass and weight, it would be helpful and less dangerous if the piece could be picked up or delivered somewhere in the Greater Milwaukee area.
