I have just acquired 2 1886 chromolithographs by Moritz Muller of Munich, Germany...these printed on a textured paper to simulate canvas. Both are hunting scenes, a bear hunt and a wolf hunt...this the one with bears. Both of these are in their original frames which are in fine condition for their age. The prints themselves are very clean, having a rustic visually appealing overall tan to brown tone, with hunting scenes. These would be excellent for a rustic room. Moritz Muller was kno...wn to produce wildlife and hunting scenes in original oil paint, some of these then printed by the chromolithographic process which required many different print blocks, each for a different color. This example is signed and dated in the print, the lower right facing corner. It shows a bear hunt gone wrong with one hunter down, holding a knife, while a bear bites on his bloody leg. To the left of him is another rearing bear about to attack two hunters to his left, one with rifle raised. One dog has been injured and lies on his back while three other dogs to the left face the bear with their human handlers. one hunter is about center, apparently only then realizing what has happened. The print measures about 15 1/4" x 19 1/4", and is in fine condition considering its age. There are no tears nor stains nor foxing. There are three short light creases seen under the glass at the bottom. The oak frames appear to be original, and in fine condition, measuring about 23 1/2" x 19 1/4". Glass is present and they are ready to hang. Check out my other items for the matching Muller print.
