Note from the Artist: Known to millions as the man “who left his heart in San Francisco”, Tony Bennett began painting at the age of five and studied commercial art at New York City’s High School of Art and Design. Painting “seriously” for the past 25 years, his works of art (which are signed with his given name of Antonio Benedetto) have been exhibited world-wide, and currently, many of his original oil painting along with a selection of limited edition lithographs can be viewed in prestigious galleries throughout the United States.
Tony Bennett’s original landscapes, still lifes and Portraits (of such celebrated luminaries as Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, Duke Ellington and Judy Garland, and Mario Cuomo, Governor of New York State), have only recently become available to the general public.
In recent years, his art work has served as a visual backdrop to his musical performances. “There’s great similarity between art and music, ” Bennett says. “Line, color, form, movement, tension - these are words that apply to both singing and painting. The simple fact is that I like to sing and I like to paint, and I’m fortunate enough to be able to make a living doing the two things I love most.”
His delightful watercolor for WFUNA captures the essence and spirit of the Flag Series theme, depicting multi-national figures surrounding a flag pole and features bright reds, blues, greens, and yellows.
