For sale is an original 1857 woodcut by well-known Japanese artist, Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). The scene is titled "Fukagawa Susaki and Jūmantsubo", from the series "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo".
I'm not sure whether this is an early version of the print, and therefore more valuable. It definitely has age to it. Please see images and close-up photos.
The woodcut retains rich, deep tones and fine details (although some colors have faded and there'...s some rubbing of image in some areas (for instance the tip of the eagle's right wing). The lower paper margin has been trimmed, there's some yellowing/foxing on the pale blue lower area. There's some small paper worm holes on the left and right margins (not on the plate). Most defects remain hidden under matting. Please see images for condition.
