Outstanding etching by important American etcher and draughtsman John Taylor Arms (1887-1953). Arms was trained as an architect at Princeton and M.I.T. but became a serious printmaker in the 1920s. He became devoted to Gothic churches and architecture, eventually specializing in etchings of churches and cathedrals. His technical expertise was unparalleled. John Taylor Arms was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers, the Print Society of England, the Canadian Painter Etchers, the As...socie de la Societe des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and served as the first President of the Society of American Etchers. His prints are included in the collections of many major museums including the the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian, the British Museum in London, and the Bilbiotheque Nationale in Paris. This print, "Eglise Saint Gervais, Gisors" was part of Arms' French Church series. Impressions of this print are in the Carnegie Museum, the Chrysler Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Library of Congress, and other major collections. This is impression is signed lower right and dated 1932. It is inscribed "Ed. 100 I" lower left. It measures 9 7/8" x 8 1/8" (plate size). It is in good condition.
