EXTRA LARGE Lyman Byxbe Hand Colored/Tinted Photo " Trail To Dream Lake "
Item History & Price
Due to the fact that this is hand-colored (also known as hand-tinted) and that Byxbe did an etching with the same title in 1941, it would most likely date to the early 1940s (before the advent and wide spread use of color film). Hand-tinting is a very time intensive process and, as Byxbe was cranking out aquatints, etchings and other works as quicky as possible, he wouldn't have had time to commit to each photograph. It is noted in the catalog raisonne that Byxbe's wife assisted with some coloring of works and that they hired local women seasonally to also do some color painting (mostly of his "flowers" collection.)
This photo is on cream colored, matte paper (very similar to the type Byxbe used for his etchings) with a simple mat. It is in a new, wood grain look frame that is "age appropriate" and accents it well with its white double matting.
DIMENSIONS: Overall (to edge of frame) it is 20"H x 16"W; Photo measures 9.5"H x 7.5"W (without original mat.)
