Lyman Byxbe is one of many great artists who have tu...rned to the majestic Rocky Mountains for inspiration and the subject matter of their compositions. Born in Pittsfield Illinois, he began at an early age to teach himself to draw. He became a successful commercial artist in Omaha Nebraska, where he studied the art of etching under Mark Levings, an architect. In 1938 Mr. Byxbe moved to Estes Park, Colorado, where he has had a summer studio for many years. All of the artist's time and talent is devoted to copper plate etching in his mountain studio. In the last few years Lyman Byxbe has been honored by membership in the Chicago Society of etchers, Miniature Print Society of Kansas City Missouri, and Northwest Print-makers of Seattle Washington. He is represented in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Arts, at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC and the Library of Congress at Washington DC.
