History & AboutBomb Timers "Countdown Chronographs"Planes were used to drop bombs for the first time in World War One. The certainty of hitting a target from different heights and at different speeds could no longer be left to the "feel" of the pilot. This led to the construction of various indicators, view finding arrangement...s and stopwatches. The most significant characteristic of these stopwatches is that they reverse direction after a second push of the activator button(`count-down` or `ritorno` function).

THE CASE
A Large Wrist Worn bomb timer, 57mm without crown, 77mm with crown
Bezel designed to be gripped and used with ease even in freezing aircraft conditions through thick leather gloves.
With large belt/strap lugs for use "over the cuff"
This is In Design perhaps one of the most striking bomb timers the LEONIDAS,
Three body circular nickel-plated case, Notched rotating bezel with Radium arrow indicator, crown with start, return and reset functions, safety lock system and quick-activating lever, stop pusher at 2 o’clock, hinged lugs, snap on hinged case back,
The Leonidas Chronographo A Ritorno was originally developed for Italian aviation forces, Tho reportedly during WWII like everything else in France the Germans were to appropriate these technological aids for the Luftwaffe for use against allied forces.
THE DIAL Black dial signed “Cronografo a ritorno Leonidas”, altitude indication with luminous RADIUM Arabic markers from 5 to 60 hectometre (hm), outer 30-unit divisions with 1/5th second fractions. Blued and luminous RADIUM arrow hand.
THE MOVEMENT Manual winding 19-3/4’’’ lignes movement, gilded, 15 jewels, lateral lever escapement, monometallic balance, flat hairspring, column wheel system for the chronograph.
THE Strap The strap Is the Original Leather Stitch on open end wide belt type with original buckle.
