"Bauhaustanz" lithograph hand signed by Marcel Breuer in 1923. Marcel Breuer is well known as an architect and designer. In over 22 years of collecting all things Breuer, including every book published by or about him, I've seen only one painting or graphic art work like this attributed to ...him. As you can see, it is in the style of Wassily Kandinsky and Laslo Moholy-Nagy, his colleagues on the faculty at the Bauhaus in the 1920's. It is described in Magdalena Droste's book about Breuer (p. 40; see photos). I've seen two of these lithographs for sale over the past 22 years, and I bought both. Both are in very good condition, but neither is perfect; in particular, they have occasional wrinkles consistent with their 85 year age, as tend to appear on heavy paper stock. As shown in the photos, there are some wrinkles at the corners; the most visible one appears diagonally across the top right of the image. The final photo shows the lithograph in its frame ("Bauhaus" model designation)with glazing (acrylic for worry-free shipping). Its dimensions presumably are metric, and it is slightly undersize for the standard 18 x 30 inch opening, but as the edges of the backing behind the litho are black, they are not visible in person or in the photograph. All remaining photos were taken with the lithograph out of the frame. This is number 148 of a series of 150.
