The spine is in torn condition. pages are yellow. This Portfolio type book measures around. 10" x12.5" x 2''The plates/ prints are beautifully designed, many with borders and decorative lettering. Some plates give credit to both the researcher and the illustrator. They appear to be the work of several artists, including John Frank, K. Stearns, B. M. Trottnow, P.Yim, Leona McGill, Jean Goodwin, and many many more. Very attractive natural history illustrations showing animals, patterns from Native American textiles and pottery, skeletons, and more. These beautiful plates show indigenous arts alongside natural history sketches to show how design and patterns considered most beautiful have counterparts in nature (or, to cast a more Colonial light on it, how indigenous arts are basically the same as the patterns of scales on a fish, whereas Civilized society is clever enough to notice that and be separate from it.)
