Tag Heuer Chronograph Wristwatch CK1110 s/n FH9248This beloved wristwatch has served me well for about a decade. It's traveled several times around the world and has seen the depths of several oceans and the peaks of many summits, the heat of deserts and the cold of the tundra. Through it all it has never missed a tick or shown condensation. It's been my daily driver and a reliable ...tool as much as an instrument of grace, and I am grateful for its service.
I am the first and only owner of this watch, and originally purchased it in Palm Springs, California. I am a cinematographer by trade, and as a mountaineer and scuba diver who shoots in extreme environments, I've depended on its chronograph function to keep me safe. Unlike other watches in my life this excellent timepiece has always delivered flawless operation. An oft overlooked but appreciated feature of this stainless steel watch's construction is a bezel that raises higher than the crystal, which saves the glass from constant impact. It's simple, good design that you'd think would be standard on all chronographs, but it's not.
Ever since it's purchase I've been religious with upkeep. At every battery interval it has gone to the Tag Heuer service center on the east coast for regular maintenance and professional pressure testing. It has never been opened by anyone other than factory certified technicians, and it has operated perfectly and consistently as a result. (If you are a scuba diver, I recommend you follow the same protocol. The younger me damaged an old Tag Heuer Formula 1 by trusting the local jeweler to change a battery ... Which ended up costing me a lot more than certified maintenance would have. A lesson learned the hard way.)
The last time I wore this watch was before sending it in for a battery and some TLC in May of 2018. This $300 "Maintenance II Service" included a new battery, movement, gaskets, spring bars, and ultrasonic cleaning ... And immediately adds to the value of the piece. The invoice showing this work is included with the watch, as are some extra links and a zippered case, plus the original box, booklet, and warrantee card. It has not been worn since receiving this TLC, so the watch is squeaky clean with factory integrity and it probably won't need a battery until 2020 or '21.
Why am I giving up the watch I love so much? Excellent question.
As I've entered middle age my eyesight is no longer the 20/20 or better that I was born with. I find myself increasingly squinting at my wrist, trying to read the fine detail of the chronograph functions. This is fine when wearing my glasses, but too often I'm not afforded the luxury of them-- when diving, when wearing various headgear or goggles, and when in the field having to look constantly into a camera's viewfinder. So what serves me now is a simple, vintage 2000 Classic with large white numbers and a simplified black face.
Would I buy this watch again? You better believe it.
If my eyes were twenty years younger you wouldn't be reading this Ebay listing. Now, instead of this elegant workhorse of a watch sitting in a box, I'm passing it on to someone who might appreciate it as I have. It is not a new watch, and under close scrutiny it doesn't look like a new watch. It is graciously and subtly worn in all the right places, but despite that I have to say it still looks fantastic. In fact, this thing is a killer accessory when worn with a suit, and its silver stainless steel matches with everything. If you're like me, you'll never take it off.
If you don't find this watch as I've described, you can ship it back within a week for a full refund.
Please reach out with any questions you might have. Thanks.
