If you are in the market for an original, one-of-a-kind, vintage Swiss ladies watch this is an incredible find – a watch that I may have seen in a Swiss watch exhibition catalog many years ago but never in person. It is a 1930s Art Deco stainless steel watch, more specifically a “Machine Age” or Streamline Moderne late Deco wristwatch, all original and in excellent condition. Yes, this is a watch where any watch enthusiast will pull you aside and say “What is that? How old...? Who made it?” Well, it was produced by the Invicta [Seeland] Watch Co. SA of La Chaud de Fonds, Switzerland…many decades before the Invicta name was purchased by outside interests to market and sell modern Invicta watches. Its BALL lug, solid stainless steel case measures 41.5mm end to end and a slim 10.2mm in width (11.8mm with original steel crown). This works out to be 1-5/8 inches long by 7/16 of an inch wide, not including the crown. Its original baguette-shaped 15 jewel, Swiss made mechanism has been fully serviced by my watchmaker David, ensuring it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate tine. The 100% original black, enamel finished dial is in excellent condition, untouched since first sod It features a 60 minute outer chapter, Arabic numbers and original gold metal leaf-style hands. Signed INVICTA below the 12 and SWISS MADE below the 6. The original curved (left to right) glass crystal is in excellent condition. The two-piece case is solid stainless steel and a longer 1-5/8 inches in size…just look at those “Ball” lugs! Machine Age, Art Deco, Art Moderne…it checks all the boxes. The original steel winding crown is excellent too, winding and setting smoothly. Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is stainless steel, in excellent order. It is stamped “ACIER INOXYDALBE, STAYBRITE - 21, 493, SWISS MADE.” Peeking inside I find a clean Fifteen Jewel baguette-style mechanism signed 15 Jewels, Swiss Made. The inside back lid is stamped with reference number 381. This watch has been fully serviced by my watchmaker David and comes with a 6 month warranty. It winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a vintage, new old stock black cord bracelet strap able to fit a wrist up to 7-1/4 inches for a complete package, ready to be worn and enjoyed! Need it smaller or longer? I can adjust the strap length before mailing. Truth time – I have been collecting vintage watches for close to 35 years and have never seen this Invicta model (or any other similar) before. If you own this watch you will own a watch that may be a one in a lifetime find. Watch sizes: I provide exact case measurements in millimeters (the watch industry standard) and inches, and include a U.S. quarter in one photo as a size reference. Draw the measurements on a piece of paper to help visualize the watch on your wrist. Remember, men’s vintage watches are noticeably smaller than oversized timepieces you see today. Prefer a brown strap instead of black? For most men’s watches I can switch the color before mailing; just let me know.
