Here we offer one of the most sought after of the Civil War swords. It is the Model 1860 Cavalry Sword. This example is in great antique condition. The hilt is brass mounted of regulation pattern. The top of the pommel is stamped " JM " for the inspector Julian McAllister . This sword is well marked by him because the obverse ricasso is also marked as well as the top of the scabbard. The grip is black leather over a wood core with twisted brass wires wrapped around , this grip sh...ows signs of use. The curved single-edged blade has a nice age patina. The obverse ricasso is stamped " US / JM / 1865 " . The reverse has the makers stamp " Emerson & Silver / Trenton / NJ ". The trooper that used this knew what he was doing for it is still very sharp. These swords did not come from the factory sharpened the trooper had to do this . Interesting I have seen very few that have been sharpened . It is complete with its scabbard that has a dark brownish patina. As mentioned the top is also stamped " _ M ". The overall length is 41 " with a 35 " blade.
