Small antique print, made by engraver W. Wallis, elegantly framed at time about 1950 in gilded frame. This picture was a part of Pittsburgh estate collection and it was kept in very good condition. Thomas Hosmer Shepherd (1792 – 1864) was an artist. He became interested in architecture as his father was an architectural draughtsman. Thomas painted architecture in London, Edinburgh, Bath and Bristol. He had great attention to detail and often bought scenes to ...life by including people, carriages and horses. Much of his work is in the British Museum. His paintings were the basis for steel engravings in many publications. e genuine antique prints, made around 1825.Thomas was the brother of topographical artist George "Sidney" Shepherd, [2] Thomas was employed to illustrate architecture in London, and later Edinburgh, Bath and Bristol. His paintings were the basis for steel engravings in many books (see bibliography).Shepherd's work, mostly topographical, is characterized by an attention to detail, along with lifelike scenes that contained people, carriages and horses. His first acclaim came with Metropolitan improvements, a publication of modern London architecture commissioned by Jones & Co. He worked mostly for Frederick Crace, who employed him to paint old London buildings prior to their demolition, with much of the work surviving in the Crace collection at the British Museum.
