***********FOR REPAIR/PARTS - while the screw down crown works perfectly as it should, the quickset date function works flawlessly and the time can be set without issue, the crown cannot be wound and the movement does not run. And while the bezel rotates smoothly bidirectionally, the insert is missing. Prior to my trying to remove the case back, which was unsuccessful, the case back had shown no signs of ever having been removed. The original lume, which emits a quick-burst glow after being exposed to bright light, has aged to a light pistachio hue. While the bezel rotates smoothly bidirectionally the insert is missing. The heavy-duty all stainless steel, which appears to have retained its original brushed satin finish to the top of the mid-case and polished sides, is in wonderful condition showing minor wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "SUPER WATER RESISTANT 20 ATM INCABLOC AUTOMATIC FULL STAINLESS STEEL SWISS MADE" with "1939" and "2856" stamped in the center. The crystal shows light scratching. While I normally show pictures of the movements of watches that I put up for sale the case back on this one is torqued to what feels like factory specs and is too tight for me to remove. Prior to my attempting to remove the case back it had shown no signs of ever having been removed. Based on several other identical examples that I've owned in the past the movement is very likely an ETA 2783 automatic movement with quickset date function. While the date and time can be set the crown cannot be wound and the movement does not run. The quickset date function works flawlessly by unscrewing the screwdown crown, pulling it out to the first position and then turning it clockwise until the desired date has been reached. The crown screws down perfectly as it should. Given that the movement does not run and considering that it likely as never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. This watch measures approximately 37 mm excluding the crown, approximately 40.5 mm including the crown andapproximately 18.5 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from thebottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 9 mm. Including the crystal case thickness measures approximately 11 mm.
Given that the movement does not run and considering that it has likely never been serviced a complete overhaul is required. As suchthere are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of thiswatch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is thatold-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrongfrom time to time. For this watch that time is now. Anyservicing costs going forward are your responsibility.
