" The Road Winter " A Classic Vintage Currier And Ives Lithograph
Item History & Price
This is an Iconic Currier and Ives print that has become a holiday classic easily recognized.
The vintage painting was done by an employee of Mr. Currier and presented to him as a gift. The couple in the sled are Mr. and Mrs. Currier. They were so pleased, they added the work to their collection and the rest as they say is history.
The original painting is in the collection of the Nationw...ide Insurance Company in Ohio. Stone printed lithographs were not made after the 1900's. Reprints began being made in newer processes though many were still hand painted. This reprint made by the Columbus Bank Note Lithographers was among a collection of artwork that dated from the 40's and 50's. I assume the piece is of the same age but I do not have confirmation of the exact printing date on this piece. You can tell by the feel of the paper it is old, but not woven. Columbus Bank Note Company began production 1910.
The lithograph has its original information car still attached by a rusty staple that is almost gone. It has left just a small stain on the top left corner. Other than a softening of corners and edges the vintage artwork is in very good condition. The paper is clean and colors are very bright. There is no foxing around the edges or stains. The overall size of the lithograph is 17 3/4 inches wide by 13 1/2' tall. The border is approximately 1 1/2 inches. The lithograph is unframed and will ship in a tube.
