This book took over THREE YEARS to design. It is filled with art and spells. It CAN'T be used as your primary book of shadows because most of the pages are full.
I love the film Practical Magic. I have seen this movie over 30 times and can quote every line of dialogue. When I got married, the Practical Magic soundtrack played during the ceremony. I walked down the aisle to Crystal by Stevie Nicks and jumped the broom to the Amas Veritas score. I have wanted the Owens’ Family Spell Book for years and now I finally have one. I have also been practicing Wicca for 25 years. I hope that you all trust in my magical experience, as well as in my fan geekiness to bring you the ideal Practical Magic Book of Shadows.
ARTWORK AND TEXTThe book includes:1. A family tree dating back to Maria Owens. All the family members from the 1600s to present day have a painted portrait or photograph and a bio. This includes all the characters from the film.
2. Floor plans of the Practical Magic house. I took the original floor plans from the film and made the house more realistic. I added bathrooms and closets and two additional bedrooms. All the furniture seen on film has been added to the floor plans too.
3. The most iconic pages from the film. All of these pages had to be hand drawn or painted.
4. All of the same woodcuts and ancient alchemy images used in the original prop book. Me and my business partner spent hours hunting these down.
5. The exact same fonts used in the prop book from the film. I took photos of the original pages, posted them into Photoshop and separated all the letters. Then I uploaded the modified photo into a font identification site. I found the exact same fonts the original prop designers used to make the book from the movie. 6. The midnight margaritas recipe and many other fun references to the film.7. Many hand lettered pages. I mention that Maria Owens was a calligrapher. Many of the spells she added to the front of the book were hand lettered.
I tried to keep the reproductions as close to the originals as possible. However, some changes needed to be made to make this book more accurate. I removed the original symbols and stamps from the pages because the original Practical Magic Book of Shadows designers added random symbols and graphics. I changed them to real magical signs and symbols and graphics which pertain to the herbs and spells.
BOOK CONSTRUCTIONThis is a double sided bound book. The front has 346 pages. The back has 66 pages. You can add a few of your own spells to the blank pages. However, this CAN'T be used as your primary book of shadows because most of the pages are full.
The dimensions of the closed book are 9" width x 11" length x 4" height. This is smaller in width and length than the prop book from the film, which was about 11" wide and 14" long. The book is bound in brown faux leather. Our leather craftsman uses a soft and supple faux leather material which feels a lot like real leather.
This book has TONS of three-dimensional objects glued down onto the pages, including, feathers, envelopes, herbs, and sealing wax. I developed a special binding system which allows a book filled with so many layered objects to lay flat when closed. Without our special binding system, the book would spread out like a fan.
