EXQUISITE ANTIQUE ROYAL VIENNA STYLE HAND PAINTED PORCELAIN PORTRAIT PLATE SIGNED BY WAGNER
AUSTRIA-GERMANY LATE 19TH CENTURYUp for bid is this magnificent piece of fine porcelain manufactured by the renowned firm of Royal Vienna. A superb VIENNA style plate completely hand decorated and heavily gilt featuring a "Belle Epoque" beauty and artist signed by WAGNER ( a well-known Austrian-German decorator, active late 19th C. early 20th C., during the Art-Nouveau era ). The round shaped... plate with waving edge is masterfully hand decorated in colour enamels portraying a beautiful woman on the round central medallion. She is facing dexter, draping loosely with free-flowing hair and framed with a richly gilt trim with palmettes, foliate scrolls and multicolour roses throughout the edge and jewelled against a white and cobalt-blue ground. An stunning 'object de vitrine' fully marked, bearing the bindenschield / beehive mark in underglaze blue to the underside plus the decorator's number and titled "ASTAND" and, artist signed in black WAGNER to the lower right on the central medallion. A top of the line piece measuring approx. 9.75 in. ( 25 cm. ) in diameter and in untouched good antique condition showing only some relatively minor wear consistent with the age and teeny paint losses in two roses and the hair close to the ribbon as seen on the images. The gold, the painting, the jewels, the general workmanship is amazing, breathtaking. This plate is a true delight, it is gorgeous.
