These prints are from an extremely rarework of beautifully hand colored stipple engravings. It derives form thework of the luminaries of the 18th century and the later direction of Turpin. The"Dizionario di Scienze Naturali" in 26 text volumes and 4 atlasvolumes came as one of the most extensive and wonderfull Natural HistoryDictionary. First published in France, it was thenpublished in Italian in 1837 by Batelli & Sons (Ref: Ceresoli).Botanical prints are by Turpin, the othersubjects by Pretre.
The prints in excellentcondition, are beautifully executed stipple engravings in very fine detail, allwith original handcolouring. The colours are bright and very intense ona creamy white medium weight paper. Some are heightened with gold& silver.Each print measures approximately 5 1/2 inches wide by 8 3/4 inches long, with descriptions in Latin & Italian. There is no accompanying text.
