Offeredis this lovely bride’s bowl resting in an ornate footed silverplate stand. The cranberry-pinkopalescent hobnail bowl was made by Fenton in the 1950s. It features adouble-crimped rim.Thebowl comes in a silver-plated stand with a handle, thus creating a bride’sbasket.Thestand is marked “quadruple plate” with a manufacturer’s name that we can’tquite make out. It appears to have been made in Connecticut.Inthe late Victorian era, brides with standing in their community wo...uld receive abride’s bowl or bride’s basket as a wedding gift. The idea remained popularuntil the middle of the 20th century, when such “fancy glass”succumbed to the informal style of the modern era. Thecrystal bowl measures between 9 and 10 inches in diameter (23 to 25.5 cm)depending on where the measurement is taken. Thesilverplate basket measures 11.5 inches high (29 cm) to the top of the handle.The round opening of the platform that holds the bowl in place measures 4inches in diameter (10 cm).Thebowl is in very good used condition with no chips or cracks.
