A Nice French Gilt Mantle Clock With Male Figure On TopA superb French mantle clock in a gilt metal case. This is a very impressive and decorative clock, the figure on top of the case looks like a male figure in classical Roman or Greek dress, perhaps a philosopher or astronomer? The clock sits on an alabaster/marble base . The front has three plaques with what appears to be green enamel with a star design. The white enamel dial has Roman numerals and markers and has a few hairline cra...cks (see photos for condition).The French 8 day countwheel bell striking movement has a stamp on its back (see photos). One of the springs is good and fully wound the other needs replacing. This clock needs a bell and pendulum. The case is a little loose but looks generally in good shape. Late 19th century in date it may have been re-gilded at some point? Measures 13.25in tall 16in wide x 6in deep.
