Original piece, on sketch book paper. Measures 9" by 12". Signed and dated, front and back. Jack Savitsky, (1910-1991), was a 35 year long Pennsylvania coal miner, starting after his 6th grade, who became an artist when the mine closed. He worked first in oils and when the fumes from the oils made his black lung disease worse, he switched to other methods, pen & ink, color pencils, crayon etc. He use...d whatever materials were available to him, sketch paper, backs of cardboard from package boxes, wood sections etc. His work is in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, National Museum of American Art, Museum of American Folk Art, and the Rockefeller & Williamsburg collections to name a few.
