Old Paperweight Scottish Ysart Vasart Briefbeschwerer Millefiori 13 Spoke 1950 ' S
Item History & Price
RARE, EARLY YSART MILLEFIORI PAPERWEIGHT Made in the Monart or Vasart Glass by one of the Ysart Brothers
The canes used Have been seen in some of the Monart period made by Paul Ysart. I am not sure if it is made by him or one of his brothers, an experienced collector would know. But it is one of the Ysart family who has done these paperweights. I estimate the year of manufacture late 40's to early 50's due to the dark base and the pontil and the height.
Diameter ca 55mm ...( 2 3/16"), height ca 4 cm( 1.5").
No series on the Ysart family would be complete without a chapter on their contribution to the history of Scottish paperweights. While the Vasart team and Paul Ysart (who by this era was estranged from his father and brothers, having remained at Moncrieff Glassworks) had vastly different outlooks on paperweights, each branch of the Ysart family contributed something meaningful to the genesis of Scottish paperweights as a whole.
