Original Civil War Albumen Photo-Flagship of Gen. Ellet's Marine Brigade & Troops / Prisoners Transport AUTOCRAT at Vicksburg . Wonderful, large and original 7 1/2 X 6 inch albumen photo of the AUTOCRAT. Books have been published about Gen. Ellet's Mississippi Marine Brigade cavalry units that could rapidly deploy from special steamboat ramps by horseback to pursue Confederate guerilla forces. Taken soon after fall of Vicksburg July 4, 1863. The ...fall of Vicksburg and Port Hudson and the transport of Confederate POW's by Gen. Ellet's Mississippi Marine Brigade made big news in Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper August 1, 1863.
Photos # 6 & 7 are not included with this sale, but demonstrate the Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper article published August 1, 1863 about the fall of Vicksburg and Port Hudson, and the transport of Confederate POW's. Photo Condition is Used. Albumen Photo is in good condition, with clear detail; but parts of original cardboard mount have broken away. May easily be remounted or cropped. It is very rare to find Albumen photos of this size and quality selling at prices comparable to easily procured CDV's.
