Reference Number: Avaluer:12719857 | Country/Region of Manufacture: United States |
Original/Reproduction: Original |
Here is an original 1967 rock poster by Rick Griffin for three Jefferson Airplane concerts at The Matrix on Fillmore Street in San Francisco on April 11, 12 and 13, 1967 (“Minors Welcome”). It is printed on reflective foil poster stock, mounted on cardboard, and measures 19 3/4” x 13”. Designed by Rick Griffin with a famous photograph by Ivan Strauss, as seen through a stereoscopic lens, of a biplane flying past the Statue of Liberty. Fine print states: “Rick Griff...in ~ Ivan Strauss Distributed by (c) Berkeley Bonaparte P.O. Box 1250 Berkeley, Calif.” Condition is decent for an original 52-year-old poster, some scratches & creases, see all photos. This poster is never seen without some wear, due to it being printed on special reflective-foil stock. It still displays beautifully, and finding this rare original poster in any condition is a stroke of luck, as they usually only appear at physical auctions of rock n’ roll memorabilia. Hakes lists one that sold for $201.25 (in better condition, but still!). Winner pays just $14.95 shipping. Thanks for looking!
P.S. This concert engagement was a historic homecoming for Jefferson Airplane; The Matrix being where they got their start a year and a half before. The club barely held 100 people legally, and these shows were certainly a must-see big draw, since by 1967 they were developing quite a following and, just two years later, would play a career-defining set at Woodstock.
