Cased set of Gardner of Edinburgh Instruments from 1870's and presented as a prize by Birmingham Medical School prize in a surgical class prize to Howard Griffiths Lowe in 1873 (see photos)
Fresh to market from my own collection which I purchased in 1990's in Edinburgh (ironically where Gardner are from) Case is maroon morocco leather (somewhat chippe...d) and with a mauve velvet lining. Hinge has been repaired (see photos) but is stable and the catch closes locks perfectly.Although original case and instruments it is missing some instruments. Inner case top lid can be lifted but has no instruments
Interior shows little wear & in original condition. Cartouche is silver & shows some residue on leather from polishing. Instruments are all marked Gardner and have ebony handles a couple have some rust spots (see photos) consisting of :
