This is an authentic piece of Legras art glass from the Legras company of St. Denis France, circa 1890's. The shape is reminiscent of the Victorian rose bowls which often held potpourri, but this piece measures a full 8" W and 7" tall and weighs almost 3 pounds. Legras made both hand enameled and etched glass in the French Art Nouveau style of the late 19th C. This example is hand painted in enamel, a graceful bold brushwork in a dark red on an orange enameled top por...tion and frosted opaque bottom. There is even a brushed slip of paint under one of the grape leaves to emphasize the hand work. To contrast with the bright colors there are the bold black or purple grapes. The base has a ground round pontil. Someone has added three sticky green felt cushions for protection...these peel off. It is signed Leg. for Legras, a signature seen often and legitimate.
