1960s NOS Sunoco Custom Blend gas pump shaped tin coin bank. Used as a promotional item at Sunoco stations.
This Sunoco branded coin bank from the late 50’s early 60’s features the proprietary blend selector lever on one side, the fuel nozzle and hose on the other side, and the display of “200 – 260” octane on both front and back as seen in the primary photo.
This is considered “old-new” inventory of tin gas pumps coin banks from the 60’s.They are all identical, o...riginal and genuine. They were never given out to customers as intended back in the day. Due to having been stored on a shelf for many decades though, some do have minor cosmetic wear.History on the piece: Sunoco introduced "custom blending" gas pumps in 1956, allowing customers to choose from several octane ratings through a single pump. Offering eight grades of gasolines from “190” to “260”, with the highest octane being well-known at the time by V8 Muscle Cars operators in the 1960s. Today, Sun is most well-known for being the official fuel provider of NASCAR and other US racing leagues, but they are very much so still around and publicly traded on the NYSE.Originally manufactured to be given out at Sunoco gas stations in the 60s, the tin for sale here was one of only a handful made but never distributed to consumers, allowing the buyer of this listing to own an authentic collectible tin at a reasonable price.These SAME items are on record at Barret Jackson automobile memorabilia auctions.The photos seen are of what can be considered the “AVERAGE” condition coin bank in the collection.
