This beautiful display lamp was in my father-in-law's furniture store. That's about all the provenance I have for it. I have been trolling the web on and off for a year or so, and have found no reference to it. No mention anywhere, not on any auction sites, not even on the Globe-Wernicke sites. This might be the only one in existence, but I expect someone will tell me otherwise. The store goes back to just after the Civil War, so the date... for this item is open to conjecture. The company adopted the name "Globe-Wernicke" in 1899 and changed it to "Globe-Weiss" in 1963, so the date of this lamp is somewhere in the range 1899-1963. Someone schooled in antique electrical connectors could probably give a narrower estimate. I tried to find information on that strange plug that can be seen in the photos, to no avail.
[Sincewriting this, I have received information from what seems anexcellent source. They, as well, have never seen one like it. Theydate it circa 1898-1905.]
The globe is in excellent condition; beautiful milk glass with a few spots which seem to be baked in; very small chip in the collar; paint missing from much of the lettering.
The base is tarnished and the wiring needs replacing. (The light source for the two "lit up" pictures was from another source.)
The globe measures 12" x 11" x 5"; the opening is 4"; weight is 6 lbs.
Please see photos for condition.Shipping on Mondays. Payment must be received the previous day.
