Original cabinet card photo of Civil War Medal of Honor recipient Carle A. Woodruff inscribed and signed by Woodruff on both the front and the back. Probably dates to mid-1880's. Woodruff was a career soldier who was brevetted Captain for gallantry at Gettysburg while serving as a 1st Lieutenant in the 2nd US Artillery and brevetted Major for gallantry at the Battle of Trevillion Station. He received the Medal of Honor for heroic action at Newby's Crossroads, Virginia ...on July 24, 1863. He spent the rest of his career in the Army retiring as a Brigadier General in 1903.
