UNCUT Columbia Pictures pressbook for "THE PHANTOM STAGECOACH" starring William Bishop, Kathleen Crowley, Richard Webb
Pressbooks were printed and designed by the movie studios to promote a film, and were sent exclusively to movie theaters that were showing the movie. They were not seen by the general public except if the theater manager decided to use something within to promote the film, so they are extremely scarce on many movie titles as many have been obtained from closing theaters that were in operation from the 1920's through the 1990's. Many of these have been sold off during the last 15 years on auction web sites and to collectors. Since the theaters were to use these for their newspaper advertising, most pressbooks were cut, and ads, articles or photos removed. So it is rare to find pressbooks that have no cuts and are complete. They contained everything the theater would need to promote the film including ad mats (this is what theaters used for newspaper advertisements, usually many different styles), pages of original publicity stories, pictures of all of the film's posters, promotions with rare studio photos, publicity stills (stills and photos are PART OF THE PRESSBOOK, not separate) and much more. Be sure the pressbook you are shopping for or purchasing is well described as far as condition. I describe the condition as accurately as possible, some of the things I list are very minimal but because this is collectable memorabilia I try to be as precise as possible.
The pressbook's ink has retained its darkness and the pages have retained their brightness. Both printed on all-gloss paper. No cuts. This pressbook has been folded but flattened for 15 years . The paper stock on the covers is very thick, and the interior pages are a thicker paper than most pressbooks of the era.
The numbers 57-8 are stamped/written on the front cover. This was done by the National Screen Service (the company that sent these to theaters on behalf of the studios to promote the film) who stamped/wrote this on most of their material in order to file it. What is means is that this was released in 1957 and it was the 8th movie of the year.
The pressbook has remained in great condition.

You are shopping my own personal pressbook collection, which has been given the greatest of care. It has always been housed in an air conditioned room, with a large HEPA air filter very close to keep away dirt and prevent extensive darkening of the pages. Most of these have been in plastic and not exposed to air or dampness and in a no-smoking home. All of this is important when considering to purchase a movie pressbook.
I WILL ONLY SHIP TO PAYPAL CONFIRMED ADDRESSES! PLEASE NOTE THURSDAY AUCTIONS SHIP THE FOLLOWING MONDAY (due to my disability).
Check out my other auctions on great condition pressbooks! I will be listing hundreds of pressbooks from my own collection in the next year. Pressbooks were sent only to theater owners to promote and advertise the movie and are extremely rare especially without cuts. This collection has been of the utmost importance to me and has been stored in a temperature controlled room. When purchasing pressbooks, remember that many were stored in the basements and attics of theaters, and could be damp or marked. I have never purchased any pressbooks that were not in excellent to near mint condition.
Inquire about quantity shipping. It is not fair to charge the same shipping for each pressbook if you win more than one, I will only charge the postal cost. Pressbooks will be very carefully packed! The shipping cost is as close to real cost as possible, I am not out to make extra profit on shipping, which includes shipping and extra large folders with cardboard to send them unfolded and protected from bending.
