Vintage Stangl pottery vase from the 1939 Rainbow line. The vase is unmarked but I have a larger version (slightly different shape) in this glaze, with an impressed Stangl mark. The vase is about 6-1/4” high. It has a strong, imposing presence for its size.
The deco shape is accented by two gently curving handles. The glaze is an extraordinary blend of a rich orange red to a flowing brownish color to a mint green blending down to a turquoise with hints of indigo. The nuan...ces of the colors are endless.
The vase has two glaze flakes on the top rim, one on each side of the vase. You can see these in our photos. One flake is about 3/16” long and 1/16” from top to bottom. The other is smaller. The glaze has some light crazing, almost invisible except on close inspection in bright light. There is a small scrape or tiny scratches in the glaze on one, lower side. The color and glossiness are still intact. There is an occasional manufacturing flaw such as a little “clay bump” and a clay separation on the top of one handle. This looks like a crack but happened in the firing of the pottery. The vase still displays beautifully and has vivid color.
