Bruce a Stebner was well known in the 80’s and early 90’s for his handmade salt glaze stoneware. It was all hand thrown and fired in his beehive kiln. At a certain temperature salt was added to the fire to glaze the pots, hence the term. I used to work for him in his studio in Hartville and he remains a friend. After he moved from Hartville, which is a country town, he still made pottery for a while but it was not salt glaze because of environmental regulations. I’ve never seen a... piece like this before. It is a batter mixing bowl with a spout and a slim handle. The top rim makes a heart shape. It is signed freehand on the bottom whereas most were stamped. It is also dated, ‘94, I think. There is a cobalt blue flower design on the side that continues under the spout. It is approximately 5” tall and 8 1/8” at the top’s widest. The inside is a nice Albany slip brown and there are no chips.
