The labels are Ex+ Visual grading The vinyls are in excellent condition and have an impressive visual 'look' for 50+ years old. Record One (Sides A & D) has some faint sleeve removal hairlines with only 3/4 that are a little more obvious on Side D. Record Two (Side B & C) is in lovely condition and Side C only has two hairlines that are more visible to the eye. There are no scratches or marks on either record. There is some spindle wear although not a great deal so the records have definitely not been over-played and that is reflected by the audio quality as detailed below. Both vinyls still have a glossy sheen and the run out grooves and labels are also very clean.Play gradingThe quiet intro on 'And The Gods Made Love' has only very light background static and the swirling tape loops then 'play' with stunning quality and only one click and a little static right at the end. 'Electric Ladyland' plays very clearly with only minimal static on the intro. The audio here is 'high end' and there are no clicks or pops at all, a very impressive version. 'Crosstown Traffic' is superb! It plays loud and true with no distortion and barely any 'background' on the fade out. It is Near Mint without question. The classic 'Voodoo Chile' does not disappoint either. With only minimal static on the intro (and I do mean minimal!) the playback is so strong as is the depth of the audio. Redding's bass adds so much to this track, it's not all about Hendrix's imperious work! As it progresses the more you are impressed by the clarity. The vast majority is Mint- and that is no exaggeration. There are so many quiet sections and yet they all play so clearly and there are no clicks or pops, just a handful of dust ticks. The crescendo ending is mind-blowing! Perhaps just a hint of distortion but it is so minor and totally non-intrusive. The only negative is some obvious crackle on the spoken 'crowd' section at the end which can only grade as VG- but overall this is a very impressive version. The acoustic intro on 'Little Miss Strange' plays nigh on perfectly with only a couple of mega light static ticks. The remainder is faultless and that also applies to the fade out. So often the first track on an album of this 'age' will have some interference but the 'clean' sound here is superb and grades as Mint-. 'Long Hot Summer Night' has a little static on the intro and thereafter plays very clearly and with only the odd light static sound in the background, again not intrusive. 'Come On' begins superbly although there is one click and a couple of static ticks just after the vocal begins. From then on it plays wonderfully well and the guitar solos are 'as new' with no distortion on the top end. I guess an Ex+ grading is fair because of the 2/3 seconds of interference near the beginning but in all honesty the rest is Mint- it is that good. There is one pop in the dead wax but that is obviously prior to the next track! The intro on 'Gipsy Eyes' is perfect and continues in much the same way. From start to finish it plays with great clarity and power and there is no 'background' of any kind. The intro on the classic 'Burning Of The Midnight Lamp' is stunning and then plays with impressive quality. There is a little inner groove distortion but that is commonplace on any final track and it is very minimal anyway. There are no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either. There is nothing that detracts from the quality of the audio.----------------------------------------------------------------------'Rainy Day, Dream Away' on S3 has one light static click on the intro and a couple of seconds of barely audible static and then plays with incredible clarity. I do not think I've heard that sax/guitar section play so 'cleanly'. Wow! The first verse plays 'as new' and the depth and warmth on the entire track is just astounding. The fade out also plays to near perfection and gives a good indication of the clarity. This is a sublime Near Mint version without doubt. '1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be' is one of the cleanest versions I have heard in a long time on a 1/1/1/1 pressing. From the intro to that first classic riff - right to the very end this classic plays with great clarity. I heard only one light static tick and a couple of louder clicks in the quiet psychedelic section but aside from that there is no other interference. There is no persistent static or crackle and the playback is....well words fail me!! The remainder cannot be faulted and again it is so obvious this side has hardly been played. The segue into 'Moon, Turn The Tides...' has no interference and plays with stunning clarity once more and only a handful of mega light dust ticks. Most sellers would not even mention this! Yes it is frustrating about the two clicks on this side but apart from that the definition and clarity is about as 'high end' as you could wish for. For over 50 years old - really rather impressive! 'Still Raining, Still Dreaming' is another track that impresses from the very start and it is rare for the opening grooves on a vinyl of this age to play so cleanly. The power of Hendrix's work here is legendary and there is no distortion to be heard. With only a couple of faint ticks this is a superb version and the definition of the audio could not be any better. As the bass builds each time the playback is sublime. What a version! I will grade this as Near Mint although I am sure many would say better! 'House Burning Down' has a super strong intro with no interference and the remainder is loud and true with barely any distortion which is a rarity. There is just minimal static on the 'quieter' end section. The classic 'All Along The Watchtower' plays with fantastic depth and clarity from the very first note. I never want to sound repetitive but this is just sheer audio perfection! It could not play with any greater precision and is as good as when first released back in October '68! The clarity and sonic quality here deserves a special mention, I have never heard better. From start to finish this is Mint- there is no denying the quality here. To be honest the minus is not necessary! 'Voodoo Chile (slight return)' has only a little static on the intro and as soon as the volume increases the audio cannot be faulted. The vocals play with great precision and the guitar work here is...FANTASTIC! For a final track of this power to have no distortion is such a rarity and the 'wah wah' guitar is just so powerful. There is no interference of any kind and this is a Mint- finish to the album. In summary this iconic double album plays with a depth and quality that is rarely heard today. The clarity and power is so good and whilst there are four clicks there is barely any other interference. So often vinyls of this age will have persistent static or crackle but that is certainly not the case here. As stated the vinyls are very clean and the famous gatefold whilst it does have a little wear is still in excellent condition. The GatefoldThe fully laminated E.J. Day cover has been well looked after down the years and the edges have next to no rubbing. The top edges just have a very slight wavy look to them, it is very minor. The wide spine is in superb condition with no marking at all and the corners of the spine also have no wear. The other corners are also impressively clean with minimal rubbing although the bottom left corner on the back cover as you look at it does have a little more. The opening edges of the front cover has a little handling wear and the other has none at all. The front cover itself has no laminate splits but does have three scractch lines. They are not partuclarly obvious unless you hold it at a certain angle. There is also some minor wear next to the bottom edge but again this is minor and a couple of small creases also. The back cover has only one obvious corner crease and some minor wear along the bottom edge. The inside of the gatefold is very impressive with only two corner creases and a small number of faint creases around the edges. What really stands out though is how clean the inner spine as this is so often found in poor condition. Not this one! It may sound like I have listed a lot of negatives but as my regular customers I am nothing if not honest and the majority of the wear is superficial anyway. The InnersThe poly-lined 'Plastic Bags...' inners are in excellent condition with no splits or tears. They just have a little creasing and age related around the edges. The LabelsThe 'Track Record' labels are in great condition with no marking or writing and have lost none of their original colour, no fading at all. There is some spindle wear albeit not too much.Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
