Thislisting is for a early1900’sWestmoreland Stein Mug in the Medium BlueOpaqueCustard Milk Glass. It was manufacturedby the Westmoreland Specialty Company and made in the United States.This beautiful beer stein stands approximately 4 13/16”Tall.It is 2 5/8”ODacross the open top and 31/8”in diameter across the hollowedbase. Thereare 3 Panels depictingdifferent scenes. The left panel depictsGnomes walking in the woods carrying a kegwith Germanwriting‘EinKuhler ...Trunk, Ein grunder wald’(Acool Drink, A Green Forest).Thecenter panelshowsGnomes sitting at a table drinkingwiththe phrase in German ‘Wohl be Koms’ (ToYour Health), and the right panel depictsGnomes Bowling with the legend‘EinLustig Spiel Frewt Jung u alt’(AHappy Game Enjoyed By Young and Old).Thehandles on the Gnome Pattern Steins feature the flat thumb pad asseen on the Indoor and Outdoor scene steins made by The IndianaTumbler and Goblet Company. VeryGood to Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or discoloration. These Steinsweremade in three patterns: Troubadour (same design as the Serenadepattern), Gnomes, and Knights. ThisStein is the GnomesPatterndesign.Thesesteins (mugs) are also often referred to as "Greentown Glass".Although there was never a Greentown Glass Company the term"Greentown Glass" is most often ascribed to items that weredeveloped and\or produced by the Indiana Tumbler and Goblet Company(1894 - 1903) ....Original steins were made around 1900 for use aspacking jars.
