HIGHLAND SPRINGS BREWING RUETER and ALLEY STEMMED FLINT BEER GLASS MISSION HILL BOSTON. ALE THAT IS ALE. Circa 1890's. Stemmed etched beer glass from the Highland Springs Brewery which was located at 154-166 Terrace Street in the Mission Hill neighborhood of Boston. The brewery was founded in 1867 by Irish and German immigrants. The brewery closed during Prohibition and reopened and later reopened as the Croft Brewing Co. Croft was purchased by Narra...gansett in 1952 and eventually ceased making beer in 1953. The glass is extraordinarily rare and in virtually unused condition. It came from the same collection as the Highland Springs factory lithograph that I sold a few weeks ago. Dimensions are 7 1/2 inches tall X 3 1/2 inches wide at the top X 3 1/2 inches wide at the base. 12 thumbprint indentations around the bottom of glass. Nice piece of flint glass that was expensive to make 100 years ago. Probably explains why there are so few survivors. Condition UNUSED NEAR MINT. No chips, cracks, stains, or high point wear. I don't know what a fleabite is but it doesn't have any of those either!!!! The only action this glass has seen in the last 100 years is when I drank a Geary's Pale Ale from it 20 years ago!!
