This is a wonderful, original document Signed ("Thos M:Kean") as Governor of Pennsylvania, vellum, 11¾ x 20½ in.,   1805. A land grant of land called "Annas Patch" in Lancaster  County. Countersigned by T[imothy] Matlack, who engrossed the Declaration of Independence.  Beautiful paper and wax seal; vellum, ink lightened, otherwise an especially attractive document. Thomas McKean (March 19, 1734 – June 24, 1817) was an American lawyer and politician fro...m New Castle, in New Castle County, Delaware and Philadelphia. During the American Revolution he was a delegate to the Continental Congress where he signed the United States Declaration of Independence and the Articles of Confederation. McKean served as a President of Congress. He was at various times a member of the Federalist and Democratic-Republican parties. McKean served as President of Delaware, Chief Justice of Pennsylvania, and Governor of Pennsylvania.Timothy Matlack (May 28, 1730 – April 14, 1829) was a brewer and beer bottler who emerged as a popular and powerful leader in the American Revolutionary War, Secretary of Pennsylvania during the war, and a delegate to the Second Continental Congress in 1780. He became one of Pennsylvania's most provocative and influential political figures, but he was removed from office by his political enemies at the end of the war; however, he returned to power in the Jeffersonian era.Matlack was known for his excellent penmanship and was chosen to write the original United States Declaration of Independence on vellum.Please view the other historical and Civil War related documents I'll be listing this week.SEE SCAN.I now accept PAYPAL but PREFER other forms of traditional paper payment.
