As with all authentic GS&H Majolica pottery from this era - virtually all have the decorators mark in the small unglazed area on the reverse side of plate. This is the Green Leaf with variegated center on basket weave rim around plate Etruscan Majolica plate. Etruscan Griffin, Smith & Hill mark also on the Reverse.Some crazin...g from age. Manufacturing process and hand painting led to some bubbling and edges in the creation process. There are no chips or cracksFront of the plate has a "lip or small edge" in the clay and this was painted over. There are few irregularities from the firing process which was normal for these pieces as they were produced beginning in the 1860's until the plant closed in 1903. There are photos in listing to show these imperfections. Note: The name “Etruscan” mirrored Wedgwood’s use of “Etruria” and reflected the archaeological discoveries of fine pottery around Rome. The firm expanded in 1885 and began producing other types of wares as the demand for majolica diminished.
