LOUIS ARMSTRONG - RARE AUTOGRAPHED PUBLICITY PHOTO FROM THE LATE 40S EARLY 50S
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:1325235 | Signed by: Louis Armstrong |
Original/Reproduction: Original | Modified Item: No |
Up for sale is this really exciting publicity photo signed by Louis Armstrong likely at the early part of his career in the late 40's - possibly early 50's.
The photo is of Armstrong in front of 5 of his "Esquire Awards" earned from 1942 - 1947. Noted in the lower corner "LOUIS ARMSTRONG looking over his Esquire Awards acquired from 1942 - 1947 inclusive". The photo was issued by the Associated Booking Corp (noted in the lower right corner)....
Armstrong signed the piece "Best Wishes to Fraig(?) and the Boys at the Frontier Bar - Louis Armstrong". The Frontier Bar is a reference to the Frontier Club which was a casino that sat by the Reno Arch in Reno, Nevada from 1946 - 1956 (ergo the estimate of date being late 40s to early 50s). The photo has come from a direct descendant of the owner of the Frontier Club so provenance is strong.
The photo is best stated as in "Fair" to "Good" condition - it has been trimmed at the bottom for framing and also has a small loss at the top right corner. There is some wrinkling - please see close up photos for best idea of condition as they are considered part of the condition description.
No authentication on this autograph as the provenance, the rare Associated Booking Corp. and signature all justify reasonable belief of authenticity.
