Born in 1819, Becker trained as a clockmaker in Germany and Austria. In 1850 he opened workshops in Freiburg, Silesia, Germany in 1850. Initially, Becker struggled wit...h untrained help, but won the "Medaille d’Or" for design at the 1852 Silesia Trade Exposition. Becker incorporated that first medal and his initials, G.B., into his trademark.Description of the itemA large spring driven ornate wall clock by noted maker Gustav Becker dating to circa 1918. The 40" tall polished mahogany pillared case glazed to three sides. The twin train mechanism strikes the hours and the halves on a single 19" rod and is marked 'GB Silesia'. The clock is in good antique condition, the movement winds and gongs but has not been checked for accuracy. I would advice a service and check over by a clock specialist.Dimensions and Specifications Twin train spring driven mechanismHourly and halves strike on gongDimensions:- 102 cm tall, 40 cm wide, 20 cm deep
