A typed letter to *Major Russell B. Harrison on engraved White House letterhead, signed by Theodore Roosevelt, dated November 5, 1908.
*Russell Benjamin Harrison... (1854 – 1936), businessman, lawyer, diplomat, and politician. Harrison was the son of President Benjamin Harrison, and the great-grandson of President William Henry Harrison.
With the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, Harrison was commissioned as a major and inspector general in May 1898. He served in the force that occupied Puerto Rico and later became inspector general of Puerto Rico. He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in January 1900.
After the war, he moved to Indianapolis where he set up a law office.
In 1908, he returned to public service, and served as consul to Mexico until 1927, and doubled as the consul to Portugal from 1919 to 1927. He also served in Indiana House of Representatives and Senate.The stationery is folded, slightly discolored/creased/crimped, and marked from a glue disc.
