This collects up all of them. The earlier sides from 1953 lack hisinimitable slide, but the 1960 session produced classics like "Talk to MeBaby, " "Madison Blues" and a powerful reading of T-Bone Walker's"Stormy Monday." These tracks of James working with the Chessproduction team are delightfully fleshed out with a half-dozen gems by thehighly underrated John Brim, some of which include stellar harp work by LittleWalter ("Rattlesnake, " "Be Careful" -- on which Walter stopsplaying in several spots to become an ad-lib backup vocalist -- and "YouGot Me") as well as the original version of "Ice Cream Man, "better known to rock fans from Van Halen's cover version of it from their debutalbum. (d) The record comes in a hi-grade PVC inner sleeve (e) Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its FAKE ("electronicallyrechannelled") stereo counterpart. We estimate that FAKE stereo copies ofthis album outnumber monos by a ratio of at least 5:1.
