Animation Cel of Wendy from Disney’s 1953 film, "Peter Pan”
Item:
16 field cel of Wendy holding Michael’s teddy bear.
Framed dimensions are approximately 16” high x 20” wide.
Condition:
Cel is in excellent condition. I have never had this item removed from the framing
but the cel is not stuck to the background. The frame is an inexpensive piece and
although it displays nicely as shown it could be re-framed to better enhance th...e setup.
Other Information:
This cel comes from the scene right after the song, “What Makes the Red Man Red”.
Wendy and the boys are dancing around the fire when she is stopped by the Indian
woman. She tells her that, “Squaw no dance, Squaw gettum firewood”. Wendy angrily walks
away, shortly returning with an armful of wood. At that moment she sees Peter and the
Chief’s daughter becoming a bit too friendly and throws the wood down on the spot.
As she tries to get the boy’s attention she is once again interrupted by the woman who
repeats, “Squaw gettum firewood”, and this time Wendy replies, “Squaw no gettum firewood,
Squaw go home!” In this cel she lifts her head indignantly while closing her eyes as she
walks between the teepees and away from the festivities.
Wendy was voiced by English actor Kathryn Beaumont, who also provided
the vocals for Alice in Disney’s 1951 film, “Alice in Wonderland”.
After Tinkerbell (and maybe the Mermaids), Wendy is probably one of the hardest
characters to find from this film.
