Henry, Harry and William Erdmann are without a doubt behind “Erdmann’s Celebrated Birch Beer”. Limited information was found on them, however. They were listed as living together for many years, indicating they were... related, likely brothers. Henry was listed as living in Omaha in the 1870 US Census. In the Omaha City Directory of 1874 Henry was a bartender at the Grand Central Hotel Saloon. Henry and Harry were later listed as cigar makers. Harry was also listed as an apple cider dealer.
By 1883 Henry was proprietor of his own saloon and billard hall. It is suspected that the Birch Beer was being bottled while Henry owned the saloon. The only ad found for the Birch Beer was from 1889. The 1890 city directory lists H. Erdmann & Co. as soda and mineral water manufacturers. The city directory of 1901 lists Henry as a bartender. The 1902 Directory lists Harry as a bartender. The 1905 directory lists William as “cigars”. It is unknown what happened to them after.
