BAILEY'S PATENT STANLEY LOW BLOCK PLANE AUXILIARY TAIL PATENT IRON AUG 6, 1867
For your consideration is an antique Bailey's Patent Low Block Plane with it's Auxiliary Tail. The plane is unmarked except for the iron which is stamped with the original and extended patent dates: "L. BAILEY'S PATENT AUG.6.67 - AUG.31.53 EXD.". There is some original japanning inside the body. Some oxidation throughout (integrity remains). Some pitting - Some noted over the sole (especially near the toe... (see photo7). All adjustments operate very smoothly. The horizontal adjustment nut and front knob are both heavy brass. The knob on the tail has a deep finish with beautiful grain. The plane is a candidate for some cleaning if you wish (I'd leave it alone and displaying its beautiful used look). This great, old plane measures 7.0" X 1 7/8" (excluding the extended length attributed to the axillary tail). This looks to be a rare one!
