This tintype has square corners. It came in a case. It was a bit dark in the case, and looks better out of the case. However, since it came to us in the case, we’ll give it to the winning bidder that way.
Remember, it’s a bit dark. But it’s an astonishing image. The dog looks like he or she is hamming it up for the camera, with head tilted and a big smile. Then there’s the artistic touch of the gold locket.
Finally, the condition is as good as they come. There is minor we...ar in it (please read the condition report below), but this is truly in excellent condition.
SIZE. Tintype alone is approximately 3 1/4 x 2 3/4 inches. Housing is sixth plate size.
HOUSING. Half case.
CONDITION. Rather than very good we opted for excellent in describing this tintype. No bends. The only signs of wear are a pattern of very light mat abrasions which correspond to the mat, indicating that this tintype has always been in this half case. The white in the upper right corner is simply a byproduct of production and not a condition issue.
APPEARANCE. A bit dark, but lovely. Really a nice image! I’d go further and say over-the-top.
