We own several large 500plus storage locker facilities and on occasion people don't pay the rent. Onthe popular reality TV show they claim to auction off units without looking atthe contents first. If you believe that, we have a nice timeshare condo to sellyou on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border with a beautiful view every night of agorgeous fireworks display. It is just down the road from the Catholic andMethodist churches and across from the Jewish Synagogue. Everybody wa...lks the streets on warm summerevenings. On TV have you ever wonderedwhy there is a large group of people standing around but nobody bids except thesame half dozen or so that you saw in the last episode? Unlike theTV show, we examine all contents and if we think the items will do better oneBay or at a local estate auction that is our procedure and that of absolutelyeverybody I know in the same business. If the contents are junk or low end, then we auction units sometimes combined with others as a way of simplyavoiding taking things to the dump and having to pay to do so. If we use the term "antique" it isonly for saying it is old and for use in the category eBay sometimes onlyoffers for something like this. But the true definition of antique is 100 yearsold and this obviously is not. We reallydon't know the exact age or pretend we do. In our opinion, we thought this or these unique items deserved to belisted on eBay and hopefully somebody will enjoy owning. If not, we will call the Salvation Army as weneed to keep the storage units empty & ready to rent as that is ourbusiness. All items going out of theContinental US must be insured and sent Priority International. We can't determine the exact cost until theauction is over. Insurance desiredwithin the US must be requested by the buyer. PayPal is accepted as eBay demands it but any other form of traditionalpayment is cheerfully accepted, even United States currency which is federallyillegal not to accept although eBay doesn't seem to be aware of that.
We located several dozenmechanical slot machines in an abandoned unpaid storage unit. Our best guess is that they are completemachines or nearly complete. It appearsthey were taken apart to begin restoration and just never finished. Some have the wood refinished and othersdon't. Some have the fancy designs onthe front polished, some not, and others are in primer or with small amounts of bodyfiller to fill in small blemishes and such. Those were probably being readied for paint with bright colors.
We tossed aroundthe idea of hiring somebody who knows how to put them together & decidedagainst that. If we put some of our ownmoney into them the starting prices have to be higher. And we have looked at many on eBay thatappear to be listed over and over and over with fantasy high prices because theseller has no idea of value or the price came to them in a fantasy dream. I heard it said once many years ago"things are only overpriced when available somewhere else forless". We hope to be for less. All the money from things we find inabandoned storage units goes to a local charity for battered women but we wantto get them decent prices and not pennies. We have done a lot of searching on eBay so we have become a littleknowledgeable on definitions & such but please don't be upset if we don'thave the name of something totally correct, the age, the exact name, or whereor when made, etc. The photos posted are ourdescriptions and everything is being sold as is and the way you see it.
Our goal is to just sell this stuff andclear the unit so we can rent it which is our business, not selling slotmachine parts or machines. Since mostare already taken apart we are going to try selling them as parts to makethings easy for us to ship and see how that works for now. A lot of things are kind of heavy so we willguess at the cost to ship which is posted based upon things we have sold in the pastbut if we guess too high, we won'tkeep any extra money not used for shipping and send it back to the winners account.
