This is a very thin quilt, with barely a layer of cotton batting inside: it measures 74" square and weighs 3 1/4 lbs. The bed is a queen, 80" by 60".
All butterflies have different feed sacks on their wings and there are 36 of them. The sewing of the appliques and their embroidery was done by hand. All the beautiful, dense quilting was done by hand as well.
The makers decided to put a bunch of butterflies flying in a matrix of spider webs: that quilting pattern was done in ...4 places, as clearly visible if you enlarge pic # 1.
The rest of the quilting of the sashing strips was done in a diamond pattern, and the borders in yet another pattern shown on close-up # 8, and the inside of the butterfly blocks have a sophisticated flower quilted in them.
