Up for sale is ONE (1) Pre Prohibition Mettlach Wurzburger Hofbrau Beer Mug/Stein. This one is from August Luchow of New York City, NY and advertises Wurzburger Hofbrau. The mug measures 4-3/4" x 3-1/4" in diameter and weighs 1 & 1/2 pounds. Marked as made by: Villeroy & Boch Mettlach, Made in Germany, Hausmann 4th Avenue New York. The condition of this example is as shown/pictured. I don't believe this was ever used (just displayed) so you would be hard pressed to find a better example. There was a thick layer of dust on & inside the mug. Included a few pictures of that to illustrate how this has been sitting for many years. The only signs of wear I could find were a few light scratches through the clear glaze on the outside. It is mostly on the sides, not on the front artwork. It was from storage over the years & not being packed well. Once cleaned a near flawless inside & cleaner outside were revealed. Very nice early pre pro saloon or tavern pottery mug or stein for your collection.
