A good late Victorian oak stationery box with inkwells, adjustable calender and bottom drawer. It also has its original lock and key which works, but unfortunately the width of the doors have shrunk over time, which is a common problem with stationery cabinets, and the latch no longer locates in the keep.
The door opens to reveal a waterfall arrangement of compartments for keeping documents and stationery. Above these is the callender that can... be adjusted by twiddling the ebonised knobs. The whole unit can be lifted out which enables access to further storage area beneath. At the bottom, there is a central pen tray and the inkwells that have white metal screw tops, are either side. At the base, there is a pull out drawer and it sits on a small raised plinth. On the inside of the left hand door, there is a criss cross arrangement of ribbon for keeping business cards, notes, etc. The ribbon is a new replacement. On the right door, there would have been a framed porcelain plaque for writing notes with a pencil, and this would have slotted in the existing fitting.
Sympathetically cleaned, re-waxed and polished. In overall excellent antique condition.
Measurements: 39 cm wide, 30 cm deep and 34 cm high.
